stained glass mosaic panels

I designed these custom stained glass mosaic panels as a memorial for a family in Clinton, NC to honor their mother. She was very involved with her church choir particularly with the children. This was created to hang on the wall behind the choir and behind the pulpit. Read More→

Recent Stained Glass Creations

I haven’t posted here in a while, but I have been busy in the studio and I figured it was time I shared some of the my recent work with you.  You can click on either of the images for a larger view.

new-creationThis big piece was created on a piece of MDF board approximately 24×36.  I incorporated several techniques to achieve a three dimensional affect. This piece has roughly 450 pieces and 4 to 5 lbs of solder.  The board was covered in copper sheets and the four corners were created using traditional stained glass techniques. The background was covered in solder as were the edges of the board. The “floating” flowers were constructed as free form pieces and then tack soldered to the solder field in the center.   I added some wire work and jewels to complete the three dimensional look.  This was an experiment and I am very pleased with the final piece.

colorful-transomThe second item is a 12×36 transom created for Nancy Plemmons of Apex,NC and is pictured on the right. We are in the process of completing two more custom stained glass designs for the transoms on either side of this piece for their screened in porch.  This transom  had approximately 400 individual pieces!  A ton of little pieces of glass,  a lot of work, but our customer was very happy with the end result!  We had a blast creating this for her!

As always, we look forward to your comments.  And, of course, if you want a custom stained glass creation for your home or work – don’t hesitate to contact me.

Mermaid

By Jere · Comments (5)
Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

Not Afraid of Color was recently commissioned to create a custom stained glass Mermaid for Mr. and Mrs. Merrow in Brier Creek, North Carolina.  Once completed, this one of a kind piece would reside in the couple’s bathroom.  Joy Merrow loves mermaids and dreamed of having a art piece of a mermaid in her home.  With a window this size above the tub, privacy was a huge consideration in both design and the selection of glass. We had such a great time creating this piece.  Walk through the design and creation process with us and see for yourself how we created this dazzling beauty of seafarer’s lore.  Read More→
